About
faithandfood.com
Faithandfood.com
was launched in the House of Commons in September
2003. We aim to promote inter faith eating as
a means of breaking down ignorance and misperceptions
between people of different faiths. Faithandfood.com
is part funded by UnLtd and the Millennium Awards
Trust.
Faithandfood.com
is part of global tolerance limited, an award
winning consultancy, productions and training
company based in the UK. For further details about
global tolerance, please visit www.globaltolerance.com.
Beliefs
faithandfood.com
is non-denominational and does not endorse or
recommend any dietary practises or beliefs. We
have a love and appreciation of all religions
and respect their beliefs.
Inter
faith eating
In
London, over 4.8 million people belong to a religion
(according to the 2001 census). For many of these
people, what and where they eat is influenced
by their faith.
faithandfood.com
encourages inter faith eating. The registered
food outlets listed in our database all have religion
symbols assigned to them, so that people of different
faiths know that they can eat together in accordance
to their own faiths. We hope this will lift the
barrier of ignorance that has till now hindered
people from different faiths from eating together.
It
is our desire that by sharing food and each other’s
company, people of different faiths will gain
a better understanding of each other’s lives
and loves, and pave the way for a more peaceful
future.
Who
is the site for?
faithandfood.com
is for people who can relate to one or more of
the following statements:
“I
am interested in the dietary practices and beliefs
of the different religions.”
“I
go out with people who belong to the same religion
as me, but I would like to know where else we
can eat together in London.”
“I
go out with people from different faith traditions
to my own, and I would like to know where we can
eat together in London.”
“I
need to cook for a friend who belongs to a different
religion to me.”
“I
need to cater for an event in which people from
different faiths will be present.”
The
way to your heart
The
strap line of faithandfood.com,
‘the way to your heart,’ has several
levels of meaning.
The
common saying, ‘the way to a man’s
heart is through his stomach,’ has been
changed to the second person ‘you.’
This recognises that food is a passion for everyone.
We feel this gives the website a personal and
inclusive approach and reflects the nature of
the site and the faithandfood.com
brand. ‘The way’ is also used here
to demonstrate a key function of faithandfood.com
– it tells you where you can go to in order
to meet your needs. ‘Your heart’ also
has another meaning here – people will often
associate their faith with what is in their heart.

Why
does your database only cover London?

and the rest of the world. For business reasons

Where
does the money from the restaurants go?
faithandfood.com
is part of an award winning social enterprise

limited diverts a portion of all money raised

How
do we know the information on the site is reliable?
Why should we trust you?
All
of the ‘Faithandfood Fact Files’ have
been written by leading members of the different
faiths. While we can not guarantee the accuracy
or reliability of any information on the dietary
practices of the different religions, every effort
has been made to supply you with ‘food facts’
that can be used by the public in their every
day life. The religion symbols are assigned by
the food outlets (after reading the information
on the Faithandfood Fact Files). Every food outlet
is informed that they must be absolutely certain
that their ingredients conform to a religion’s
dietary practises and beliefs before assigning
themselves with that religion symbol.

Dear
faithandfood.com
I am delighted to send this
message of support to faithandfood.com.
I am sure faithandfood.com will help people of all
faiths, or none, to find suitable places in London
where they can eat together. As Mayor of London
I am proud of our capital’s status as a diverse
city of many faiths, and I welcome this initiative
